This started with a frozen avocado. I thought it'd be too heavy as a straight ice cream, but yogurt was too sour. Bananas too assertive. So I thought...what about popcorn? First, caramel corn is one of the few things in the world that utterly conquers me. Crackerjack, Moose Munch, the salted caramel, popcorn and peanut sundae at ABC Kitchen. I am slain. Plus, I liked the idea of adding corn as a reference to this dessert's savory counterpart, corn chips and guac.
I thought this would taste like spacefood, in the best possible sense, the avocado stiffened and aerated by light, fluffy, starchy popcorn. Not quite. This ice cream is like a textured silk -- sweet and gritty and extremely luxurious.This tastes better licked off the side of the blender, not necessarily by the spoonful.
